This year marks an exciting milestone as Baylor's Student Occupational Therapy Association (SOTA) launched an annual advocacy pin fundraiser. The campaign is designed to strengthen the Departme

nt's scholarship fund and to celebrate the students' shared mission to elevate the profession through leadership, service, and meaningful engagement.

According to Kyra Sims, Entry-level OTD student and SOTA President, the 2026 cohort designed the inaugural advocacy pins to be much more than an accessory—the pins will serve as a powerful symbol of the cohort's commitment to promoting occupational therapy and supporting local communities.

"They will serve as a reminder that every student has the power to influence policy, promote inclusivity, and advance the profession," she said. "Wearing the pins will reflect our shared identity as emerging practitioners who are committed to creating meaningful change—both now as students and in our future roles as clinicians."

The advocacy pins will be awarded to students who donate $20.26 to the Department's established scholarship fund. Sims hopes students will be excited, not only to donate but to also wear their pins proudly.

"A donation of $20.26 directly supports student-led initiatives that strengthen advocacy, community outreach, and professional development. Your contribution helps us grow as future practitioners and creates lasting impact within our program and the populations we serve," she said. "You're not just supporting students—you're investing in the next generation of occupational therapists who are passionate about making a difference in people's everyday lives."
