Kelly Layne, PhD, OTD, OTR
Clinical Associate Professor
Kelly Layne is a Clinical Associate Professor for the Baylor Doctor of Occupational Therapy program. She earned her Bachelor of Science in Biology (1998) from the University of Southwestern Louisiana. She then earned her Master of Occupational Therapy (2001) and her Post Professional Doctor of Occupational Therapy (2003) from the University of St. Augustine for Health Sciences. In 2024, she earned her Master of Philosophy in Education and in 2025, she earned her Doctor of Philosophy in Education with emphasis in technology and design. Her dissertation focused on virtual debriefing in graduate health sciences education. Dr. Layne has developed content for hybrid and face to face OT programs and has presented nationally and internationally on innovative educational practices. She has had articles on education, international collaboration, and community practice published in peer reviewed journals. Additionally, Dr. Layne has co-authored a textbook chapter on experiential learning theory in occupational therapy education.
Dr. Layne has practiced in a variety of settings with adults and older adults including acute care, trauma ICU, inpatient rehabilitation, long term acute care, outpatient, mental health, and community-based practice. She has held certifications in breastfeeding and cognition. Dr. Layne has provided pro-bono services to community-based organizations that serve adults, older adults, individuals with mental illnesses, and mothers and babies who are breastfeeding.
